“I Lost Your Love From True” by Jack Kimball

How are you? Fine. You? I’m good.
These are the words that define my pain.
It’s my full time job to paint my face,
and I can’t change it day to day,
- no matter what I do

I hurt you. I’m sorry.
I wanted different and you wanted the same.
Now it’s too late.
I didn’t realize;
- I didn’t think it through.

I would fix it if I could.
And maybe that would help, help contain,
this aching guilt,
this gnawing rat,
- that turned my heart so blue.

I watched you weep; my world went gray,
and caste my heart to beat refrain,
a meter of my gravest thought,
to end the life that’s only brought,
- a man who failed for you.

If I could forgive the pain I caused, I would.
I just can’t. I just can’t do it. I can’t explain.
I can’t forgive the face not showing,
and seek this day my judgement knowing;
- I lost your love from true.
