thanksgiving toast in the face of Modern Anxiety
This day I made an early rise
faced life in the morning mirror.
There, in my examined image
life’s mixed up meaning fogged the glass
clouds of politics, nightly news
splashed anxiety on my face
and in the mist dripped out of place.
But now it’s later in the day.
And I look around this table
And know why the glass is clearer.
It’s family, friends and loved ones
that helps each of us be able.
It’s family, friends and loved ones
that gives meaning to the mirror.
